Trillium likes sandy soil, because their seeds are disbursed by 🐜︎ ants, and ants like sandy soil.   Trillium seeds are disbursed by ants because trillium seeds (and seeds of other woodland plants that seem to grow in clumps) have a 😋︎ yummy attachment, that cause 🐜︎ ants to move them to their nests, up to 2.4 m (8 ft) [2] or 8 m (30 ft) away! [3]
