HWA feeds by sucking sap from hemlock  genus Tsuga and spruce  genus Picea trees.

In eastern 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 North America, HWA has destroyed large forests, and threatens other forests, of eastern hemlock  Tsuga canadensis and Carolina hemlock  Tsuga caroliniana.

  • foliar-spray, using a horticultural mineral oil (short-term), and
  • insecticide-injection, using one of a couple different insecticides (said to protect the tree for 5–7 years).
